Sideshow devices find way in GPS equipment

Posted by admin on 07-17-2008
Microsoft recently introduced its first-ever embedded OS for portable devices that use GPS (global positioning system) to get people where they want to go. The sysetm is connected to the Internet, thus able to provide real time updates, maps and traffic conditions. The aim of the new OS is to enhance such portable navigation devices by adding new features such as Internet connectivity and services. However, the most interesting aspect of this type of devices is the fact that OS also allows PNDs to be used as secondary display screens for a variety mobile PCs using the Windows Vista OS. Users may be able to connect their PND to their laptop and access information from the device, without having to boot-up. Such devices will be 'discovered' by the Vista Operating system (or as a matter of fact Windows 7) via means of network connectivity or Bluetooth links. Cool! ...[Read more »]

Prototype MFP52 Sideshow Hardware Device from Silverstone

Posted by admin on 04-12-2008 in

Among the first SideShow hardware devices spotted in 2008 is the Silverstone MFP52 Sideshow Auxiliary display device. This device is looks rather interesting but I seriously doubt the functionality aspect of this Sideshow display. This Vista Sideshow compatible device apparently snaps into two PC bays and when removed it opearates from batteries with Bluetooth connectivity. It can also play MP3 files (why would you do that when you have MP3 play capabilities in any smart or dumb phone?) This device conspicuously reminds me of MSI's MP3 player with Bluetooh support  covered by me in early 2007. You can find the full article here. More pictures of this device can be found here: http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2008/01/09/silverstone_branches_out/1 and at this french website http://www.homemedia.fr/actualites/3465-Ecran-SideShow-Silverstone.html...[Read more »]
